The Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Immunology brings together investigators from a number of departments, including Epidemiology, Internal Medicine, Microbiology, Otolaryngology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Pharmacology and Urology. Faculty expertise and research activities encompass a broad range of areas allowing for excellent training opportunities in innate, adaptive, cellular and molecular immunology. The faculty directory lists the Immunology faculty, primary department appointment, department affiliations and a brief overview of their research programs. The curriculum consists of both introductory and advanced courses in Immunology and elective courses in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology and Pathology. Laboratory training applies current cellular, biochemical and molecular technologies to address important research questions. The Program oversees a weekly seminar series. This series regularly features a number of noted scientists from around the country and world.

All students admitted to the Program receive a competitive stipend and all tuition is paid.  Since 1994, the Immunology Graduate Program at Iowa has received support from a NIH Training Grant. This funding allows us to send each of our graduate students to a national immunology meeting each year, as well as provide enrichment funds for the purchase of books and/or subscriptions to scientific journals.

The University of Iowa, with over 31,000 students, is a major public research university recognized for its long-standing commitment to teaching and research. In addition to the laboratories of the Immunology faculty, all students can also utilize technologies provided by a number of central research facilities, including electron and confocal microscopy, image analysis, NMR, high resolution mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, molecular biology and protein structure cores.

The University of Iowa is located in Iowa City, a community of over 100,000, and is situated within 250 miles of Chicago, Minneapolis, and St. Louis. A variety of cultural, intellectual and sports activities are available to all residents of Iowa City. Students at the University of Iowa are thus provided the opportunity to pursue a rigorous graduate education while living in a safe, pleasant and supportive environment.
