During undergraduate studies, Joe worked for 2 years in a plant ecology lab studying the effects of mycorrhizal fungi on the biodiversity of native Kansas grasslands. Afterwards, he worked in an evolutionary genomics lab studying the genetic mechanisms behind the evolution of complex traits in house mice.
