Siegfried Janz’ primary research interest concerns mouse models of human B cell and plasma cell neoplasms that are induced by the deregulated expression of the cellular oncogene MYC (c-myc). His laboratory has recently generated gene-insertion mice that mimic three different states of the human MYC-activating t(8;14)(q24;q32) translocation. He is now developing genetic methods for the detection of the homologous Myc-activating T(12;15) translocation in mice.
As co-leader of the program on Cancer Genetics and Computational Biology, Siegfried Janz is actively engaged in the research effort of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. An important goal of this program is to enhance our understanding of the molecular genetics of B cell lineage tumors and to apply this knowledge for improved therapeutic outcome and tumor prevention. |
